How to Prepare for Your Tattoo Appointment
To ensure the best possible experience and outcome, please review the following:
1. Eat Before You Arrive
Have a solid meal 1–2 hours before your appointment. Low blood sugar can cause dizziness, nausea, or fainting.
Bring a snack if your session is longer than 2–3 hours.
2. Start Hydrating 2–3 Days Prior
Well-hydrated skin takes ink better. Increase your water intake in the days leading up to your appointment and continue hydrating the day of.
3. Avoid Alcohol & Blood Thinners
Do not drink alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Avoid aspirin or other blood-thinning medications unless prescribed by your doctor. Excess bleeding can impact the tattoo process.
4. Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Being well-rested helps with pain tolerance and overall comfort.
5. Moisturize Leading Up (But Not Day Of)
Keep the area moisturized in the week before your appointment. Do not apply lotion on the day of your session.
6. Dress Comfortably & Accessibly
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area.
Avoid light-colored clothing if you’re worried about ink stains.
7. Avoid Sunburn or Skin Irritation
Do not tan or expose the area to heavy sun in the weeks prior. We cannot tattoo sunburned, peeling, or damaged skin.
8. Shaving
We will shave the area safely in the studio. You may trim long hair with electric clippers only. Do not razor shave prior to your appointment — we will do any necessary shaving in the studio.
9. Avoid Alcohol, THC & Blood Thinners
Do not drink alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Avoid using THC (including smoking or edibles) the day of your appointment. THC can increase sensitivity to pain and may make it harder for you to sit comfortably during your session.
